12th June 2016
Last week it was the sunshine of Fort William, this week it’s raining in Austria for Round 4 of the 2016 Downhill MTB World Cup, in Leogang.
As always, the media has always begun, and you can watch Claudio Caluori’s even-more-hardcore-than-normal chain-free run on the very wet course on Red Bull Bike, and more
- Qualifications video on Red Bull Bike – and if you scroll down in there, you’ll find Rach Atherton’s GoPro from her run. Slideshow from Vital MTB and photo-essay from Dirt and Pinkbike. Trek (Athertony) video:
There’ll be tons more media every day – I’ll look for daily videos on Red Bull Bike, and photo galleries and reports on Dirt MTB, Vital MTB and PinkBike. More information, too, on the race website.
And then, of course, the finals are streamed live on Red Bull TV on Sunday 12th June, from 14:30 Euro CEST/ 1:30pm UK BST/ 10:30pm Aussie AEST/ 8:30am USA EDT. Follow the race on the #UCIMTBWC hashtag.
If you can’t wait, check out my collections of media and video from 2013 and 2014. I’ll edit more information in as I see it before the race.
Round 3 of the 2016 Downhill MTB World Cup was in the uncharacteristically sunny Fort William, Scotland – an emotional day, the first World Cup since legend Steve Smith died, but riders racing their hearts out in his memory. If you missed any of it, here’s my collection of media I’ve found, focusing on the women’s racing – and as always, if there’s anything I’ve missed, please do tell me in the comments, or on twitter, and I’ll add it in.
Let’s start with the full race replay, thanks to Red Bull Bike – and their 5 min race highlights video too. More short highlights from the UCI:
Sunday 5th June 2016
Get ready for an amazing Sunday of women’s bike racing! We’ve got iconic courses in downhill MTB and road, and a brand-new Belgian Classic, and it’s going to be wonderful. I’ll tell you how to watch them all live, in chronological order…
I love Belgian races and their multiple names! This is Round 6 of the Lotto Cycling Cup, a series of tough races around the country, and even they call it about 3 different names! It’s a looping course, pretty much flat, two 29k laps, 6 6.9km laps and then one of 4km, and it’ll include riders like Marianne Vos and Jolien D’hoore, and I’m really excited about the Lotto Cup’s steaming! This will be on RTV.be here, from 15:00 CEST/ 2pm BST/ 11am AEST/ 9am EDT – and you can also follow via the Lotto Cycling Cup twitter and the #KVLLC hashtag. Draft startlist on Cycling Fever.
This is going to be the most amazing race. Downhill is always full of adrenaline, in breath-taking surroundings, with fantastic fans – and for us at home, there’s always tons of media.
This weekend was very busy on the road, but off it, it was two huge competitions – the 2016 BMX World Championships, and Round 3 of the 2016 Cross Country MTB World Cup, La Bresse. And thanks to Red Bull TV, we got to see the finals live – and have a whole swathe of videos and other media to watch. Here’s what I loved…
Such a stunning course, and such exhilarating racing – drama right up to the end, and tons of media. We started with this Red Bull Bike video course preview, with legend Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå‘s point of view, and had this PinkBike gallery from the practice, and then went on to the finals. Here’s the full race replay on Red Bull TV, and the highlights from the UCI:
This week we’re back (well, specifically Dan’s back after being sick last week) with a whole American stage race to cover! The Amgen Breakaway From Heart Disease Women’s Race Empowered by SRAM stage race in California was held over the last weekend and we recap each stage along with some analysis of the implications for the growth of the race and US racing overall. We talk about the latest para-cycling news (Hint: The Paralympics are going to be super exciting!)and we also cover the latest round of the MTB World Cup and lots more. (1:07:44 MIN / 62.02 MB)

Can you believe it’s been four years since we started this crazy adventure of doing a podcast about women’s cycling? Sarah and Dan take a moment to celebrate how far women’s cycling has come in that time and to reminisce a little about how they got here. From that we launch fully into catching up on the racing from the Tour of ChongMing Island, Vuelta Feminin Costa Rica, Tour of the Gila, BMX World Cup, para-cycling, the latest from the Lotto Cycling Cup and more. It’s been an amazing week to witness the growth and globalisation of cycling, and we’re putting it all down to the birthday of the podcast.

One of the things that made me fall in love with Mountain Bike was getting to see all these extraordinary landscapes, all over the world – and the Cairns round is incredible. It’s in the Australian rainforest, with all the snakes, spiders, stinging-trees and difficult conditions that comes with that – although this year it was damp, rather than 2014’s torrential (for the women, at least!). But beautiful! And the other reason I fell so hard for the sport is that the media is fantastic. Here’s my collection of videos, photos and more fun stuff from the 2016 Downhill Round 2, and first Cross Country World Cup of 2016.
Downhill World Cup #2
Let’s start with the amazing Red Bull Bike coverage – we can watch the full race replay (top 6 women, and top 20 men) over here. I love the winner’s interview (no spoilers!) around the 33:15 mark – and I really love the Red Bull video highlights too.

But there’s so much more!
