Podcast 2014 Episode 20 – Comedy Beards and Power Rants

Podcast logoHi everyone, it’s America week on the podcast, which means we basically open like we’re going to talk about US Nationals then get sidetracked for 45 minutes and  so on. In the meantime we do talk about some very exciting firsts, like the first woman to win a road and mountainbike world cup in the same season and the first woman to concurrently hold criterium, time trial and road national championships. We also argue about beards and Sarah goes on a power rant about races that don’t have websites or results or information or anything and what she thinks the UCI needs to do in order to help improve the situation (Dan scores the rant 3.75 bullhorns out of 5). Also there’s some innuendo and swearing just to make sure all your podcasting boxes are ticked. Don’t forget to check all the links below and for the brave among you, we’ve included a poll on beards so vote early and often for the most comedic beard of the podcast. (1:05:34 MIN / 62.95 MB)

USA National Championships 2014 – live and live-ish

This weekend it’s the USA National Road Cycling Championships (aka USA Pro) in Chattanooga, with the women’s ITT, and the Road Race – and we can watch the Road Race live!

Saturday 24th May:  the Individual Time Trials, including para-cycling ITTs.  All the timetables here, and able-bodied women’s ITT starts at 11am USA EST (8am USA PST; 4pm UK BST; 17:00 Euro CEST; 3am Aus AEST).  We can’t watch this live, but follow on twitter with Dan Wuori and USA Cycling – and follow the USPro hashtag too – and apparently there will be live timings on the Tour Tracker app (that has links to different versions, but here it is on iTunes)

Ant1 has a great interview with Maura Kinsella, talking about the ITT, over on Podium Café – you should definitely read it!  And we have a live-ish thread there to talk about the ITTs too.

Monday 26th May:  The road races!  Again, I love that the para-cyclists are racing their crits on the same day as a the able-bodied riders ride the road race – so fantastic.  Full timetable here (scroll down) – the able-bodied women start at 9am USA EST (6am USA PST; 2pm UK BST; 15:00 Euro CEST; 11pm Aus AEST) – and this, and the men’s race, will be streamed live here on Tour Tracker.

Lots more information on the competition website.

So much Monday news! Road & CX Champs, new kits, videos & more

I love 2014 so far!  This week we’ve had the first national Road cycling championships of the year, in New Zealand and Australia, a load of National Cyclocross Championships across the world, and other interesting things – and today it’s been the team launches for Rabobank-Liv and Giant-Shimano (the team formerly known as Argos) so there’s a ton of videos, photos and links to share with you.  Read on below, and add anything you’ve seen and liked in the comments.

New Zealand 2014 Road Championships

The first national road race title of the year went to Rushlee Buchanan, in her first race for brand-new women’s team United Healthcare, with Wiggle Honda‘s Linda Villumsen second, and Reta Trotman third

Australian Road Championships

Last week I posted videos from the Aussie ITT and Crit Champs, and on Saturday it was the final race in Ballarat, the road champs.  SUCH a great race!
