Videos and media from the 2017 Trofeo Alfredo Binda and Trofeo da Moreno

The Trofeo Alfredo Binda, the longest-running race in the UCI Women’s World Tour, is always a fan favourite, but this year even better than usual, because we could watch it all live – and there are also highlights of the Trofeo da Moreno, the junior Nations Cup race that runs on the same roads before the elite women.

Binda lived up to expectations – and with a surprise winner!  The 2017 Classics season have been amazing so far, and if you’re worried that it couldn’t live up to the Strade Bianche and the Ronde van Drenthe, don’t – it was another unpredictable race, despite the unseasonable sunshine!

There will be a lot more highlights to come, but as we have some good things to watch already, I’ll put this up now, and then edit more in as I see it.  I’ll start with the 9 min highlights from the UCI and 45min highlights from RAI, then some explanation about the livestream, as it was definitely idiosyncratic!

Watch and follow the 2017 Trofeo Alfredo Binda – & follow the Junior Trofeo da Moreno

Sunday 19th March 2017

Round 3 of the 2017 Women’s WorldTour, and we’re back in Italy, in one of the cycling heartlands – the Varese Province in Lombardy.  After the gravel roads of Strade Bianche, and the Dutch cobbles and man-made hill of Ronde van Drenthe, it’s a race for Classics riders with climbing skills – and even more importantly, descending abilities.  And one of the special things about this race is that the junior stars of the future also get to ride on some of the same roads as their elite heroines, before the WorldTour race.

UPDATE!  And the last 4 laps – 68km – will be LIVE, with the stream showing part of the race as well as  highlights of the Junior race before the elites go fully live.

I’ll tell you how to watch the WWT Trofeo Binda, and follow the Junior Nations Cup Trofeo da Moreno below, but first a bit more about the race…

Podcast 2016 Episode 36 – EPIC (That’s a Technical Term)

Podcast logoHey remember that time a few days ago when Sarah and Dan started talking about all the Best of the Year categories that VeloVoices are going to be holding voting on this week, and it took them an hour to get through the first category? Well they’re back! And this time they’re determined to get through all of the other categories (including the two extra ones that Sarah made up so that she could fit everyone in that she wanted to) no matter how long it takes!

Look, we’re not gonna lie, this podcast is EPIC (that’s a technical term). It’s huge. It’s long enough to be a Hollywood blockbuster, but it’s got more plot, more drama and more action than your standard Hollywood blockbuster, so there’s that! How could it not be when we’re discussing Best Race Finish of the Year, Best Breakthrough Rider of the Year, Unsung Heroines of the Peloton for the Year, Unsung Heroes/Heroines Behind the Scenes and Step-Up Rider of the Year?

So many great and worthy nominees, so much to argue about! Make sure you’re stocked up on time and refreshments, this one’s perfect for that long drive to see all your extended family for the holidays. Here goes… (1:59:50 MIN / 109.72MB)

You can get free automatic updates from our RSS feed here or via the iTunes store here.

And listen to, and read, our nominations for 2016 women’s cycling Rider of the Year.

How to follow the 2016 Trofeo Alfredo Binda and Trofeo da Moreno LIVE

Sunday 20th March 2016

From the cobbles of the Netherlands, the Women’s World Tour takes us back to the hills of Varese, in Northern Italy, for Round 3, the Trofeo Alfredo Binda, and the UCI-ranked Junior women’s race taking place on the same roads, the Trofeo da Moreno.

UPDATE!  The race media are saying the Trofeo Binda is LIVE too!

UPDATE AGAIN!  It’s not actually a full-livestream.

So that’s still pretty good – the race passes through the finish-line about 4 times during the race, and they’ll have a live-ticker and more information throughout the race, their ticker is always excellent.  This worked really well for the Vårgårda World Cup, so it is still an exciting step up.

Tune into the race live page from 13:15 Euro CET (12:15pm UK GMT; 8:15am EDT; 11:15pm Aussie AEDT) – the races starts at 13:30. And here’s the Youtube link to watch what they’re doing:

I’ll be doing home-made English-language commentary on my Mixlr too, for the last hour and a half, starting at 15:00 CET/2pm GMT/10am EST/1am AEDT.

There will also be highlights etc from the Junior Trofeo da Moreno too, so watch that page then too – it’ll also have ticker information too

These races aren’t livestreamed, but they have fantastic social media, they usually have a brilliant liveticker, and traditionally excellent highlights later on the day.  And I’m going to continue with my experimental race commentary, this time giving live commentary based on twitter updates – kind of like internet radio coverage.  Let’s see if it works!

Before I start with all that, check out the race’s preview video about Gavirate, where they’re starting this year

Beautiful!  Now, here’s how the follow them

More Binda videos – so great!

Two videos today – first you HAVE to watch Valentina Scandolara‘s training from the 2015 Trofeo Alfredo Binda World Cup.  I especially love the cameo from some random cycling fan who won a kermesse in his home town…

And that video is featured in the 26min race highlights from the UCI.

Want more Binda? There’s a lot more video in my compilation post.

Videos from the 2015 Trofeo Binda, Trofeo da Moreno and Gent-Wevelgem

So much racing this weekend!  I’m putting this up now, but I’ll update it with lots more videos and photo-essays over the week, because there will be so much more.

Trofeo da Moreno

First, the only UCI-ranked junior women’s race apart from Continental and World Championships, the Trofeo da Moreno, which is this fantastic race, on the same roads as the Trofeo Binda.  It’s super-tough, and last year was won by Amelie Dideriksen, who went on the become Junior Road World Champion.  Here’s just the finish-line video, and a clip from this year’s race:

UPDATE!  And a full half hour of Italian tv coverage

Here are the results…  and after that, the second round of the 2015 Road World Cup

Trofeo Alfredo Binda

There’s actually highlights on RAI Sport 2 right now (21:00 CEST/8pm BST) for about an hour and a half (missed it?  see below). There’ll be all kinds of clips this week, but here’s the finish-line only, Wiggle Honda’s pre-race video,  the first highlights and the UCI’s mini-highlights (thanks Dave Bartel for that one!)

UCI video from the 2014 Trofeo Alfredo Binda

Here’s 26 minutes video from last weekend’s Trofeo Alfredo Binda.  If you want more, lots more videos from the race – and my race report on Podium Café, with tons of links

If you’re in the USA, you might not be able to see this – we don’t know why, we’re assuming the UCI has sold the rights to someone, and it’s really frustrating.  But Hola and Tunnelbear can help – set yourself to the UK.
