Valentina Scandolara’s video diaries

I’ve always really loved riders’ social media, and how we get such interesting, fun, new views from cyclists and teams.  And I’ve always been a fan of Vale Scandolara (listen to my podcast interview with her!), so Vale putting up video diaries on her youtube was always going to make me happy.  Watch her videos from before the Ladies Tour of Qatar, and after Stage 2:

I’m especially pleased, because in that interview, I asked her to take a selfie with a camel, and she made a video selfie!  Here’s her photo too:

For more videos of rider views of Qatar, check out Vale’s ORICA-AIS team-mate Gracie Elvin‘s fantastic youtube channel, and the Wiggle Honda videos.  And if you want to watch the final stage live tomorrow, I have a guide.

Sarah interviews… Tiffany Cromwell and Loren Rowney in Qatar! Podcast 2015, episode 4

Podcast interview logoIt’s the first big road race of 2015, the Ladies Tour of Qatar, and I caught up with Velocio-SRAM riders Tiffany Cromwell and Loren Rowney, as they relaxed in their gorgeous hotel room before Stage 1.  They told me about what the race is like to ride, how the Aussie racing has been, their hopes for the season and a lot more.

You can follow them via their social media, of course – Tiffany has her website, twitter and instagram, and Loren has her twitter and instagram – and of course you can find out more about them at the Velocio-SRAM website. (31.11 MIN / 29.94 MB)

How to watch the 2015 Ladies Tour of Qatar Live! Or at least, we hope…

So the 2015 Ladies Tour of Qatar starts tomorrow and runs 3rd-6th February, and this post is a bit of a leap of faith, because while Marty MacDonald and Ottilie Quince are telling us they’ll be commentating live, on BeIn Sports, it’s not showing up on any tv guide, so we have no idea of the channel or the time or anything like that.  I’ll update this tomorrow after Stage 1 with more information when presumably something will have happened, but tonight this is the slightly depressed hopeful guide…

It’s not all bad news though – this is exactly what happened last year, and we ended up with around half an hour of each stage streamed live, with a ton of streams to help us watch.  So here’s my guess on what to do.  But first, 2 very different, but both fun pre-race videos, from Vale Scandolara and ORICA-AIS, and from Wiggle Honda:

Podcast 2014 Special Feature – Episode 56 – Sarah interviews Chloe Hosking

Aussie battler Chloe Hosking is a fan favourite, not just for her stubborn, “never-say-die” sprinting, but for the way she writes about women’s cycling.  Martin, one of my Patreon supporters, asked if I could interview her, and ask her all about joining Wiggle Honda for 2015, and the expansion of super-teams in the women’s peloton – so how could I say no?  Chloe is a lot of fun, loves to talk, and told me all about how she sees next year going, racing with Roxsolt and Wiggle for the Aussie summer season, as well as what she sees her role with the team will be for the Euro season.  We also talked about her blogging, the fall-out from those comments about Pat McQuaid, why you shouldn’t expect her to win in the Aussie National Road Race, but should definitely watch out for her in the Tour of Qatar, and a lot more!  We laugh a fair bit in this one too! (46:47 MIN / 45.09 MB)

Stream the Chloest interview available all week click here.

Get automatic updates via the iTunes store here OR via our RSS feed here.

You can follow Chloe through her twitter, her instagram, and her excellent blog on her website – we talked about a lot of her posts, but especially her post on her influences – and this great profile of Ina-Yoko Teutenberg; dealing with disappointment; her  Women who blog about cycling list – and you should read these blogs about winning at the Lotto Belisol Belgium Tour and the Omloop van Borsele.  Really you should read them all…

Here are videos of that Borsele win

And if you want to know more about the Ladies Tour of Qatar, Chloe’s first UCI race of 2015, the videos from 2014 are in here, and the ones from 2013 are over on Podium Café.

Chloe has been racing the Aussie summer season with Roxsolt, and we were singing the praises of the man behind Roxsolt, Kelvin Rundle – follow his twitter, he really lives up to his name, @crazycyclefan.  And from 1st January 2015, Chloe will be with Wiggle Honda – follow their twitter too.

I’m funded to do these interviews thanks to my incredible Patreon supporters.  Thanks to all of them, and especially Graeme for the question and Martin for suggesting I interview Chloe!

Podcast 2014, Episode 3 – We need to talk to each other!?

Podcast logoIt’s official! The season has started! The Ladies Tour of Qatar is now over and so we talk racing, deserts, camels, worlds in 2016 and heaps of interviews and stories we’ve seen around in the last week or so. Dan accidentally makes a very dirty camel joke, which he admits is actually better than the drinking joke that he was actually trying to make. We also talk about mental health, politics and whether it’s possible to write a book of the entire cycling season in the style of The Odyssey. So basically it’s exactly like every other podcast, except with normal levels of swearing restored! Enjoy! (1:07:11 MIN / 64.50 MB)

How to watch the 2014 Ladies’ Tour of Qatar live

Screen shot 2014-02-04 at 14.50.08Here we go – fast and furious sprinting in the desert!  The traditional pro women’s peloton season opener as they put down their markers for the Spring Classics – and it’s streamed live, so we can all follow the race.

The Ladies Tour of Qatar is 4 stages from 4th to 7th February 2014. If you have beIN Sports on your cable package – including in the USA – there’s a stream that seems to start at 12:00 GMT on Tuesday 4th (on Channel 12) – and if you’re in the right countries you might be able to see it on the BeIN stream.  Have a look at the tv schedule for each day for the times (in UK times).

BUT!  If that doesn’t work for you, never fear, the internet is here!

Podcast 2014 Episode 2 – Gracie Elvin

Podcast logo G’day everyone! We greet you in the traditional Australian fashion as this week reigning Australian national road champion Gracie Elvin joins us from Doha, Qatar to tell us about defending her champion’s jersey, all things ORICA, last year’s season and this year’s plans. Gracie talks us through what it was like to defend her national championship, the team expectations, the moment she was dropped from the lead group on the final climb and what it meant to take the win. We also talk about last year’s edition of the Ladies Tour of Qatar and the lessons ORICA-AIS learned there, before taking a glimpse at what’s ahead this week. Gracie also lets on that she’s looking for inspiration for her next series of videos on her YouTube channel this year. This is where we started talking about finger puppets. Also, at one point we suggested staring contests. General hilarity and wisdom (the wisdom was from Gracie) ensues. (45:44 MIN / 43.90 MB)
