So this week Sarah was not only AT the Ronde van Vlaanderen but was doing the live English commentary for the race along with Rochelle Gilmore. We talk about what it was like roadside at the race and in the commentary booth before diving into all of the attacks and moves that made up the race. Ronde van Vlaanderen 2017 – videos, media and more

Oh Flanders!  Yesterday was one of the biggest days of the women’s cycling calendar, the Ronde van Vlaanderen, and I still can’t believe I got to commentate it!  I have always wanted to watch it live, of course, and last year we came so close – but this year I saw the last 40km from the commentary box on the finish-line at Oudenaarde, so I could be biased when I say this was a hugely thrilling edition – but really, this had so much drama, fantastic racing, and a really interesting tactical decision I think we’ll be talking about for ages.

Here’s the full replay, with commentary from Rochelle Gilmore and me.  You can’t watch it from Belgium, I’m afraid, and you may need to be logged into facebook – but if you can, please give it the hits – not because it’s me, but because it’s the official stream, and demonstrating the audience really makes a difference.

There’s also an unofficial video here, for people not in Belgium/without facebook.

Dan and I podcasted about what it was like commentating the race, with photos I took on my twitter.

UCI highlights

Sporza’s official highlights (please do click for the stats) and another highlights:

There’ll be more videos to come, which I’ll edit in (and please do share anything else you see, in the comments below or on my twitter) and I have a load of great photo galleries and race reports – I definitely recommend reading these because the post-race quotes are great.

Podcast 2017 Episode 9 – Spare a Moment To Do Some Good

This week we catch up on all the attacks (so many attacks!) from Trofeo Moreno and Trofeo Binda last weekend. You know racing is intense when top riders are gunning it on the front just to settle down the sheer number of attacks! The Dwars Door Vlaanderen started while we were recording, so we give that a moment’s consideration and also take a look ahead at Gent-Wevelgem on this weekend. There’s a heap of cool media and some epic races including the ABSA Cape Epic and the Indian-Pacific Wheel Race; and of course heaps more! (1:21:45 MIN / 74.85 MB)

This week’s women’s cycling news and links round-up

It’s Mothers’ Day this weekend in the UK, so if there’s a cycling-loving mum in your life, check out the Shopping section of the site for things we’ve seen and liked – how about a 2017 WorldTour team kit, or presents that help pro women cyclists, or everyday women’s cycling? Yes, I know, you might not have ordered in time, but you can always order something and give her a card saying something’s on the way!

This week’s racing

Videos and media from the 2017 Trofeo Alfredo Binda and Trofeo da Moreno.

With her great results in Binda and elsewhere, Elisa Longo Borghini moved to No. 1 in the UCI rankings. Read how she got there, on the Wiggle High5 website.

The Absa Cape Epic

There is a LOT of great media on the race website, and tons more videos on the race YouTube – and all the results can be found here.

Videos and media from the 2017 Trofeo Alfredo Binda and Trofeo da Moreno

The Trofeo Alfredo Binda, the longest-running race in the UCI Women’s World Tour, is always a fan favourite, but this year even better than usual, because we could watch it all live – and there are also highlights of the Trofeo da Moreno, the junior Nations Cup race that runs on the same roads before the elite women.

Binda lived up to expectations – and with a surprise winner!  The 2017 Classics season have been amazing so far, and if you’re worried that it couldn’t live up to the Strade Bianche and the Ronde van Drenthe, don’t – it was another unpredictable race, despite the unseasonable sunshine!

There will be a lot more highlights to come, but as we have some good things to watch already, I’ll put this up now, and then edit more in as I see it.  I’ll start with the 9 min highlights from the UCI and 45min highlights from RAI, then some explanation about the livestream, as it was definitely idiosyncratic!

Videos, media & more – the 2017 Omloop het Nieuwsblad and Omloop van het Hageland

It was a great weekend of women’s cycling, with the start of the Classics season – and while there are just clips from the Omloop het Nieuwsblad, we have the FULL Omloop van het Hageland to be able to watch again.

If you see more, please do tell me in the comments below, or on twitter, and I’ll edit it in – and I’m including some of the sponsors, and I’d love it in you could take 5 minutes to send some of them your thanks for supporting the women’s racing, in whatever social media/communications style suits you!

Omloop het Nieuwsblad

This is sadly the only race highlights – if you can, please click through and watch it on Sporza to show them we really want to see the racing.  Or it’s also on YT:

There are some more clips on NOS.nl – highlights, and interviews with the very happy winner Lucinda Brand, and with second-placed Chantal Blaak.

Interviews, from Wielerflits, with Band, Blaak, and third-placed Annemiek van Vleuten

Podcast 2016 Episode 38 – The Year Ahead (Part 2)

Podcast logoFollowing on from last week’s episode we round out our review of the 2016 season and talk a little more about how we think things will shape up in 2017. There’s been a fair bit of movement among the teams, with some really interesting new line ups. Can Boels Dolmans dominate again? Will they achieve the same level of winning as their astonishing 2016? Will some other team step up to challenge their dominance? What will Marianne Vos’ new team look like? And how will other teams find their feet? We discuss all of this and more, including the important new investigation from the Dutch federation. There’s lots to cover, just in time to round out the year! (Also, Dan wants to note that yes, he’s given this Part 2 episode a different title from Part 1 because he’s a lovable rogue who enjoys breaking conventions so you’ll just have to deal with it).
