Podcast 2016 Episode 33 – Sarah Is Not Allowed On Mountain Bikes

Podcast logoThis week we talk about all of the worlds time-trialling in Doha. The heat in Qatar showed up in full force and played havoc with the Team Time Trial. There was plenty of riders suffering from heatstroke and heat related stress which was deeply concerning. We also talk about how this impacted on the results. There’s the Junior and Elite women’s Individual Time Trials to discuss as well, with some interesting and surprising results there. Although fortunately with less dramatic heat. We catch up on the latest cyclocross and mountainbike news and round the episode out with a bit of gossip. (1:23:00 MIN / 75.99 MB)

Podcast 2016 Episode 31 – Melbourne’s Name is Mud

Podcast logoThis week we take a deep breath as Qatar’s World Championships is just around the corner. We’ve got a few races to talk about in the Giro dell’Emilia and Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli. There’s also been the latest US leg of the Cyclocross World Cups and in classic fashion we manage to find heaps of controversy to discuss along the way. This includes everything from the latest UCI publicity around the Women’s World Tour, the TTT event in Qatar, TUEs, hacking and more. Dan also potentially manages to offend entire states in both Australia and the US. Just another week on the podcast! (1:14:13 MIN / 67.95 MB)

Videos & more from the 2015 Ladies Tour of Qatar

That was a weird edition of the Ladies Tour of Qatar…  no Kirsten Wild, and more importantly, no wind on some days, and only headwinds on others, but we did have some classic Qatar action.  Here are the videos, blogs, photos and links I’ve found….

Stage 1

Wind-free Qatar?  Really?  At least we have the full video:

Highlights:

Valentina Scandolara’s video diaries

I’ve always really loved riders’ social media, and how we get such interesting, fun, new views from cyclists and teams.  And I’ve always been a fan of Vale Scandolara (listen to my podcast interview with her!), so Vale putting up video diaries on her youtube was always going to make me happy.  Watch her videos from before the Ladies Tour of Qatar, and after Stage 2:

I’m especially pleased, because in that interview, I asked her to take a selfie with a camel, and she made a video selfie!  Here’s her photo too:

For more videos of rider views of Qatar, check out Vale’s ORICA-AIS team-mate Gracie Elvin‘s fantastic youtube channel, and the Wiggle Honda videos.  And if you want to watch the final stage live tomorrow, I have a guide.

Podcast 2014, Episode 3 – We need to talk to each other!?

Podcast logoIt’s official! The season has started! The Ladies Tour of Qatar is now over and so we talk racing, deserts, camels, worlds in 2016 and heaps of interviews and stories we’ve seen around in the last week or so. Dan accidentally makes a very dirty camel joke, which he admits is actually better than the drinking joke that he was actually trying to make. We also talk about mental health, politics and whether it’s possible to write a book of the entire cycling season in the style of The Odyssey. So basically it’s exactly like every other podcast, except with normal levels of swearing restored! Enjoy! (1:07:11 MIN / 64.50 MB)

Podcast 2014 Episode 2 – Gracie Elvin

Podcast logo G’day everyone! We greet you in the traditional Australian fashion as this week reigning Australian national road champion Gracie Elvin joins us from Doha, Qatar to tell us about defending her champion’s jersey, all things ORICA, last year’s season and this year’s plans. Gracie talks us through what it was like to defend her national championship, the team expectations, the moment she was dropped from the lead group on the final climb and what it meant to take the win. We also talk about last year’s edition of the Ladies Tour of Qatar and the lessons ORICA-AIS learned there, before taking a glimpse at what’s ahead this week. Gracie also lets on that she’s looking for inspiration for her next series of videos on her YouTube channel this year. This is where we started talking about finger puppets. Also, at one point we suggested staring contests. General hilarity and wisdom (the wisdom was from Gracie) ensues. (45:44 MIN / 43.90 MB)
