Olympic videos – Rio 2016

Screen Shot 2016-08-06 at 22.09.44

We’re eventually going to see all the Olympic bike races put up on the Olympics Youtube, but until then, here’s what we can watch from the Rio 2016 women’s cycling – road race, ITT, track, BMX and MTB, with various other bits and pieces I’ve found.

If you want to compare and contrast what happened in Rio with previous Olympics, head to the Olympic Channel, where you can search by sport, and under the Rio 2016 videos, you’ll find highlights from previous years too.

A lot of the Olympic media is geo-restricted to countries (INRNG tells you more about restrictions, and how to see things despite them), so if there’s more you want to see, do try searching with your country’s broadcaster – I’ve added the BBC links because I can see them all from the UK, but hopefully you can find them in your country too. If there’s anything you especially enjoyed, please do tell me, and I’ll edit it in.

The Road Race

We kicked off with the Road Race, which was dramatic, in so many different ways  – Dan and I talked about it in our post-race podcast.  Highlights on the Olympic Channel, and on the Olympic YT:

Anna van der Breggen talks about it in this InCycle TV interview:

2016 Track World Championships – vidos, media and more from Days 3-5

So much action in the 2016 Track Cycling Worlds!  I put up links and videos from the first two days (and was slightly scuppered when British Cycling took down all their content…) but there was tons more racing – here’s what I found from the later races.

This week’s racing videos – Essen & Namur cyclocross, and Aussie track

So much racing, so much fun – and the next fortnight will be full of muddy winter CX excitement.  The weekend kicked off in Essen for the 5th round of the 2014/15 bpost bank trofee, the GP Rouwmoer.  Here’s the short Sporza highlights video – and there are the usual lovely photos on cyclephotos.co.uk.

Full results on the race website, more photos of all the Essen races, race report on Cyclingnews, and a race report with a few photos on CX Magazine’s site.

Then Sunday, and on of the most gorgeous courses in cyclocross, the Namur World Cup.  Oh, it’s beautiful, and oh it’s tough – all sharp climbs, steep descents and an off-camber section that’s just brutal.  Thanks to the UCI, we can watch the full race replay video – but I do caveat that the technical side was a bit wonky, so we don’t have any of the course noise, or atmosphere.  It may be geo-restricted in some countries – if it is for you, try Hola or Tunnelbear set to the UK and refresh (turn your tunnelbear off as soon as the stream’s running, to save your allocation).  Here’s the highlights video, with an interview with the winner, Kateřina Nash:

This weekend’s racing – cyclocross and track

So I know you want some videos of the awesome women’s racing that was on this weekend – two TOUGH cyclocross races, some track, and some photos from the road.

First of all, Koksijde CX World Cup.  UCI highlights:

and the full race replay is here (if it’s restricted, try it with Hola set to the UK).  Sanne Cant‘s sixth win in a row, and her first ever World Cup!

I love the photos on Cyclephotos.co.uk – and there are photos by Kristof Ramon on CyclocrossRider, and more on CX Magazine’s site.  But that was just the first cyclocross race of the weekend…

Podcast episode 51 – Sarah Interviews Jolien D’hoore

It’s winter, so it’s track season – and Jolien D’hoore just won the omnium in the first round of the 2014/15 Track World Cup, demonstrating that 2014 wasn’t just her best year yet on the road as an elite.  The former Junior Road World Champion and current Belgian national road champion talked to me about why, how she combines cobbles and velodromes, her hopes for the future, and much more.
