It’s not just the cyclocross riders who celebrate the New Year with hardcore racing – down in Australia, the road peloton rub their hands with glee and hit the Bay Crits hard. The Mitchelton Bay Cycling Classic is four stages of crits, from hotdog to wicked-tough climbing circuits, and it kicks off the Aussie Summer of Cycling in a big way. Videos and photos and more
Short video highlights on SBS Cycling Central (these may only last for a month or so, but please watch these ones if you can), and the same video is here:

Hi team! Dan’s been sick so this week we catch up on heaps of racing all over the planet, from China to Europe to North America. Along the way we explain some Aussie colloquialisms and have quite a bit of fun. It’s fair to say that we get pretty excited about the upcoming weekend of racing and well, everything really. Things we talked about
This week’s racing (SO much to watch!)
Tour of Zhoushan Island
No media from this one – but big congratulations to winner Lauren Kitchen!

The final race of the year…. Worlds! Or to be more polite about it – the Ponferrada 2014 Road Cycling World Championships. The road race 7 laps of a course with 2 climbs and that killer descent (“Killer” is not necessarily an exaggeration – not sure what I think about a descent with men with danger flags, and a Red Cross tent at the bottom). So much talent, and so many strong riders. I asked some of them what they thought about the course before the race, so had an idea about the course, but what was the race like? There are tons of videos and galleries and tweets – if I’ve missed anything, please let me know in the comments or on twitter.
Highlights and full race replay
This week Sarah begged me to name the episode “Donate your mountains” but that just doesn’t work because she ‘s in a stomping mood, mostly due to a lack of video from China this year. But even without video there was some great racing and lots to talk about. The Tour of Chongming Island and the Chongming World Cup, the Trofee Maarten Wynants, Battle on the Border and even more. We ponder the big questions like “With so many photographers and video cameras at Chongming, where did all the video and photos disappear to?” and “Is Point Danger to Mount Warning the name of the first stage of Battle on the Border or the name of a Queensland sex education textbook?” Enjoy! (Why so little information? Those 3 UCI road races don’t have websites, although of course Cycling Fever have pulled together whatever startlists they can find. I’ve a feeling we’ll have to wait for results to find anything about them – and yes, we really DO believe that all races and teams should have to have evidence of at least a basic website before they get UCI status, and have to provide a basic level of info as part of that deal)
