2017 Giro Rosa Stage 3 – videos, photos, media & more

After Stage 2 of the 2017 Giro Rosa shook up the General Classification, Stage 3 was one of those typically Giro stages that look pretty benign on the profile, but could go pretty much any way –  one for sprinters, “unless it’s the exact opposite”, as Dan said in our Giro podcast preview.

There were lots of attacks, in the very fast race – and then the 2nd category climb hit, and the peloton shattered…. would it come back together or was it another day for the breakaways?

I’ve got highlights videos, results, photos and more – be careful about scrolling down if you want to avoid spoilers – and I’ve been adding all the extra videos in here as I find them, so there could be more than when you last looked!

Podcast 2017 Episode 16 – It’s Worse When You Try To Defend Me

This week we talk through the events in China at the Tour of Chongming Island. We catch up on Marianne Vos’ first win of the season. We take a look at the Women’s Tour of California (aka The Breakaway From Heart Disease Women’s Race presented by SRAM). We catch up on the latest news from BMX and we take a few minutes to reflect back on the last five years of podcasting. That’s right, it’s our FIVE YEAR ANNIVERSARY EPISODE! There’s plenty of good things (and a couple of things that induce ranty swearing) to remind ourselves of. There’s even time to play the “if I had a time machine and were insanely rich how would I help the sport” game (the rules are easier than the name). So strap yourselves in and enjoy! (54:57 MIN / 53.01 MB)

As usual, the post below includes things we talked about this week, but also videos, articles and links to things we didn’t get around to.

Podcast 2017 Episode 3 – She Rode It Geniusly

Podcast logoThis week we talk about all the racing that’s happened in the last couple of weeks from the Deakin Women’s Race as part of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race through to the Cyclocross World Championships in Luxembourg. There’s been some amazing racing and even more to discuss! There’s also been some disappointing news from around the traps and we cover those important events as well. We finish on a high note though, with Sarah’s wrap up of how you can help women’s cycling in practical ways! (1:24:46 MIN / 77.61 MB)

The 2017 Santos Women’s Tour (Down Under!) – videos, media, results and more

We’ve just finished the first race on the 2017 UCI women’s cycling road race calendar, the Santos Women’s Tour at the Tour Down Under.  Two crits, a long and a short road race, and a huge field of amazing riders.  The official hour of highlights will be out on 5th February, but luckily for us, there were teams out at the race making highlights films, photo galleries, race reports, and lots of tweets.

Here’s my collection of race media – and as always, please do let me know if I’ve missed anything, in the comments or on twitter, and I’ll edit it in.

The awesome Chicks Who Ride Bikes made illicit (fantastic!) live roadside videos every day, and you can find those on their Facebook – check them all out.  Photo galleries fr

Podcast 2016 Episode 35 – So Many Great Riders

Podcast logo

Our friends at VeloVoices are preparing their end of year voting and asked Sarah to help them come up with a short list of nominees in a whole raft of categories, from Rider of the Year to Best Race Finish of the Year to Breakout Performance of the Year (and a whole bunch more). Of course, to make it challenging the inimitable @kittyfondue told Sarah she needed to keep it to a list of 5 finalists per category.

Sarah dutifully stuck to that requirement (and simply invented new categories when she needed to go over 😉 – no really) and so here we are with the first instalment where we discuss our nominees for Rider of the Year, including a couple of honourable mentions and a couple of riders we considered, but ultimately couldn’t include. We review their seasons, the highs, the lows and the reasons for and against. Will our top pick be the same as yours? (1:01:11 MIN / 56.02 MB)

Part 2, with all the other categories (Best race finish, Unsung heroes, Breakthrough riders and Step-up riders) can be heard and read here.

Rider of the year

This is probably the most open competition in years, with all kinds of riders taking steps up, or consolidating their positions.  But some have stood head and shoulders above the rest.  In chronological order of their achievements….

Podcast 2016 Episode 34 – The Dystopic Science Fiction Architectural Cycling Digest

Podcast logoThis week we catch up on everything that happened in the Junior Women’s and Elite Women’s World Championship Road Races, including all of the things that surprised and delighted us. We do a bit of a wrap up of the latest news in UCI rule changes (there have been a lot of them for track in particular) and there are a couple of points of unavoidable controversy. We do our best to tackle them from a glass half full perspective but we’ll let you decide how well me managed to pull that off. (1:10:46 MIN / 64.8 MB)

You can also sign up for free, automated downloads via the iTunes store here or via our RSS feed here.

Stuff We Talked About

It’s all here in Sarah’s wrap-up post with videos, highlights, the stories and whatnot from both the Junior and Elite Women’s Road Races.

2016 Road World Championships – videos, photos & media from the Road Races

We haven’t had a flat Road World Championships since Copenhagen in 2011, so the sprinters were rubbing their hands with glee.  We’d seen the Team Time Trials and the Individual Time Trials on the course, but how would the peloton take it?  Find out with videos, photos, links and results from the Junior and Elite women’s road races – so exciting, and some amazing moments!

I’ll edit in more as I see it – if you have media you loved, please do let me know in the comments or on twitter.

Junior women’s road race

Highlights and full race replay:

If you don’t want to watch the whole thing,  click here for the final 1.5km, for a textbook sprint finish – high-speed, perfect lead-out.  Keep going until the last group crosses the line, because that was a really cute moment – but whatever you do, make sure you keep watching until the slo-mo overhead, it’s perfect racing.  I adore the final lead-out rider, Chiara Consonni, cheering for Elisa Balsamo’s win before she’s even crossed the line – so confident!  And I really, really love the Italians singing along with the anthem:
