The cyclocross season is in full flight, and we’ve had so many races over the 2015/6 Kerstperiode (the insanely busy time between Christmas and New Year, when the racing gets even more hardcore), and this season we had more media coverage than ever. I’m here to share the women’s race videos – and as ever, if you want to see the men’s races too, the same YouTubes have their videos too.
Cyclocross World Cup 2015-6 #5 – Heusden-Zolder
Boxing Day started with the very fast Zolder circuit. Highlights on Sporza and from the UCI:
It’s been a fantastic weekend of cyclocross, with two very different courses, and two races that played out differently, but were fantastic to watch. December CX is fantastic! And what made it better is how easy it was to watch – even if we didn’t see the races live. I’ve got videos, interviews and photos, but before I start, I want to show you something fun – the wonderful Renaat Schotte, who works for Belgian TV channel Sporza, has been sharing the viewing figures for the women’s races. These are just the figures from Sporza, so it’s not even all of Belgium, and of course doesn’t include the pirate streams….
How great is that? And this is just the first year Sporza has been showing women’s racing!
So, on with the videos… I’m focusing on the women, but if you want to see the men’s races too, the same YouTube accounts have videos of them, too.
Highlights, and full race replay
I was going to make a mega-post, but really, there’s so much content coming out of the 2015 Mountain bike and Trials World Championships, in Vallnord, Andorra, that I’m going to have to split my post into (at least!) two. So this post covers Days 1 to 4, including the Cross Country MTB Eliminator and Relay finals, the Trials quarter- and semi-finals, and the Junior and u23 Cross Country finals. It’s been fantastic racing, and it’s not going to stop – here’s a reminder of how to watch the elite women’s and men’s Cross Country and Downhill Finals on 5th and 6th September, with the rest of the race schedule and how to follow everything else…
Here’s Claudio Caluori’s helmetcam preview of the course. They had an unfortunate power cut, so the full race replay video has a LONG period of nothing in it – the races start again after the gap at 1:37:15:
The finals start from 3:30:41 (watch here) or you can just watch the UCI women’s highlights & Vallnord’s Day 1 highlights, with some (men’s) Trials and the XCE
It’s Worlds time! It’s so tempting to point to global warming for why we’ve had a lack of snow and ice races in recent seasons, but with Worlds in Tábor, the Czech Republic, we’re going to have at least one frozen Worlds. And hooray for the UCI, because of their sterling job of promoting CX, we’ll get to see the racing live! I’ll tell you how to watch it, and point you at interesting resources. There’s bad and good news about that – lots of tv, but not necessarily live… but you know me, I’ll always find you ways round that!
Let’s start with Eva Lechner‘s course preview
Here’s the Worlds programme:
- Saturday 31st January, 11:00 European CET (10am UK GMT; 5am USA EST; 9pm Aus AEDT): Junior Men – live UCI stream
- Saturday 31st January, 14:00 CET (1pm GMT; 8am EST; midnight AEDT): Elite women – live UCI stream
- Sunday 1st February, 11:00 CET: U23 Men – live UCI stream
- Sunday 1st February, 14:00 CET: Elite Men – live UCI stream
If you click through and it says the stream is blocked, check out the UCI’s tv guide, because you might be able to watch it live locally.
This weekend was all ‘cross all the time (well… except in the USA, where mud? Roots? Local politics? stopped the Nationals…) and because I love you, here’s what video I’ve found – with how to watch that postponed American Champs live. UPDATE! Now with videos from the British and German champs…
Video of the u23 men and the elite women
And here’s a post-race video interview with the winner (again) Sanne Cant (click on the box with the triangle at the bottom)
Short highlights clip that’s geo-restricted to Belgium on het Nieuwsblad’s site (want to watch? See below). Race report and results on Cyclingnews; Report and photos on Cyclocrossrider.com.
This weekend was round 2 of the MTB World Cup – and given it was in the Australian RAINforest, it was MTB in cyclocross conditions – complete with the Downhill course being shut for a while for snake crossing. Because it’s MTB, there was a ton of gorgeous photography, videos and more fun *stuff* – here’s what I liked.
This is great – they are experimenting with GoPro footage from within the race, and this is the only film they could salvage, from Jolanda Neff and Kathrin Stirnemann’s helmets. Full replay of the race video on Red Bull Bike – and here’s the UCI highlights
Good news everyone! This week we talk in detail about Flèche Wallonne and the extensive tv coverage provided for the race this year (Sarah sets a limit on how much Dan’s allowed to rant, which he accepts gracefully and without comment). We also talk about the BMX Supercross Wold Cup in Manchester and the upcoming MTB Downhill racing in Cairns (and how EVERYTHING in Australia is trying to kill you). There’s blogs and videos from all over the place and two big interviews with Emma Pooley and Evelyn Stevens to highlight. As usual, there’s plenty of swearing, plenty of laughing and lots more, so strap in and prepare for almost as much mayhem as if you were sprinting over the Mur de Huy for the victory. This week’s women’s cycling news, videos and links….
We forgot to mention this, but truthfully, we both found it so weird that we’re not sure what we would have said anyway – but we love Ellen van Dijk! Her bizarre interaction in a beauty salon
