Podcast 2017 Episode 8 – Won By Sprinters Doing Sprinty Things in a Sprint

This week we revisit all of the excitement from the Women’s World Tour at the Ronde van Drenthe. There’s more great racing from Drentse 8 and Setmarna Ciclista Valenciana. On top of this we have several really good articles about ways to improve women’s cycling to discuss and there’s been some interesting news in regards to British Cycling, and Jeannie Longo’s husband Patrice Ciprelli. Of course we can’t finish on a downer so we also take note of some of the fun stuff we’ve seen around the web this week. As always, heaps of links and videos in the post on the website!

cropped-podcast-logo.jpgThis week we catch up on the opening races of the classics season. The Omloops (het Nieuwsblad and van het Hageland aka Tielt-Winge), and Le Samyn des Dames. It’s been a great opening to European racing with diverse pelotons and results! There’s a lot to unpack and enjoy, there’s also track racing to catch up on and some other news from around the traps. Remember to park for a clean getaway and then settle in for a hell of a listen. (1:32:02 MIN / 84.26 MB)

Videos, media & more – the 2017 Omloop het Nieuwsblad and Omloop van het Hageland

It was a great weekend of women’s cycling, with the start of the Classics season – and while there are just clips from the Omloop het Nieuwsblad, we have the FULL Omloop van het Hageland to be able to watch again.

If you see more, please do tell me in the comments below, or on twitter, and I’ll edit it in – and I’m including some of the sponsors, and I’d love it in you could take 5 minutes to send some of them your thanks for supporting the women’s racing, in whatever social media/communications style suits you!

Omloop het Nieuwsblad

This is sadly the only race highlights – if you can, please click through and watch it on Sporza to show them we really want to see the racing.  Or it’s also on YT:

There are some more clips on NOS.nl – highlights, and interviews with the very happy winner Lucinda Brand, and with second-placed Chantal Blaak.

Interviews, from Wielerflits, with Band, Blaak, and third-placed Annemiek van Vleuten

Podcast logoThis week we talk about all the racing that’s happened in the last couple of weeks from the Deakin Women’s Race as part of the Cadel Evans Great Ocean Road Race through to the Cyclocross World Championships in Luxembourg. There’s been some amazing racing and even more to discuss! There’s also been some disappointing news from around the traps and we cover those important events as well. We finish on a high note though, with Sarah’s wrap up of how you can help women’s cycling in practical ways! (1:24:46 MIN / 77.61 MB)

The 2017 Santos Women’s Tour (Down Under!) – videos, media, results and more

We’ve just finished the first race on the 2017 UCI women’s cycling road race calendar, the Santos Women’s Tour at the Tour Down Under.  Two crits, a long and a short road race, and a huge field of amazing riders.  The official hour of highlights will be out on 5th February, but luckily for us, there were teams out at the race making highlights films, photo galleries, race reports, and lots of tweets.

Here’s my collection of race media – and as always, please do let me know if I’ve missed anything, in the comments or on twitter, and I’ll edit it in.

The awesome Chicks Who Ride Bikes made illicit (fantastic!) live roadside videos every day, and you can find those on their Facebook – check them all out.  Photo galleries fr

Podcast 2016 Episode 35 – So Many Great Riders

Podcast logo

Our friends at VeloVoices are preparing their end of year voting and asked Sarah to help them come up with a short list of nominees in a whole raft of categories, from Rider of the Year to Best Race Finish of the Year to Breakout Performance of the Year (and a whole bunch more). Of course, to make it challenging the inimitable @kittyfondue told Sarah she needed to keep it to a list of 5 finalists per category.

Sarah dutifully stuck to that requirement (and simply invented new categories when she needed to go over 😉 – no really) and so here we are with the first instalment where we discuss our nominees for Rider of the Year, including a couple of honourable mentions and a couple of riders we considered, but ultimately couldn’t include. We review their seasons, the highs, the lows and the reasons for and against. Will our top pick be the same as yours? (1:01:11 MIN / 56.02 MB)

Part 2, with all the other categories (Best race finish, Unsung heroes, Breakthrough riders and Step-up riders) can be heard and read here.

Rider of the year

This is probably the most open competition in years, with all kinds of riders taking steps up, or consolidating their positions.  But some have stood head and shoulders above the rest.  In chronological order of their achievements….

Podcast 2016 Episode 31 – Melbourne’s Name is Mud

Podcast logoThis week we take a deep breath as Qatar’s World Championships is just around the corner. We’ve got a few races to talk about in the Giro dell’Emilia and Gran Premio Bruno Beghelli. There’s also been the latest US leg of the Cyclocross World Cups and in classic fashion we manage to find heaps of controversy to discuss along the way. This includes everything from the latest UCI publicity around the Women’s World Tour, the TTT event in Qatar, TUEs, hacking and more. Dan also potentially manages to offend entire states in both Australia and the US. Just another week on the podcast! (1:14:13 MIN / 67.95 MB)
