The last MTB World Cups of 2016! So sad to see the season end, but Vallnord was a gorgeous place to finish in – and of course, we can watch the full replay and catch tons of media and videos. I’ll be editing more in as I see it, so leave me a comment or tell me on twitter if you find things I’ve missed.
All the results and standings from the 2016 MTB World Cup are on the UCI website – and I’ve also got some thoughts about the UCI highlights videos, and a bit of a rant about why they chose to promote DH as they do.
The full race replay is here on Red Bull TV; and highlights, a few photos, full results and Atherton’s winning run on the Red Bull Bike report; Highlights from Trek Factory Racing:
Photo-essay on Pinkbike; lots of photos on the Vallnord website.
We’re eventually going to see all the Olympic bike races put up on the Olympics Youtube, but until then, here’s what we can watch from the Rio 2016 women’s cycling – road race, ITT, track, BMX and MTB, with various other bits and pieces I’ve found.
If you want to compare and contrast what happened in Rio with previous Olympics, head to the Olympic Channel, where you can search by sport, and under the Rio 2016 videos, you’ll find highlights from previous years too.
A lot of the Olympic media is geo-restricted to countries (INRNG tells you more about restrictions, and how to see things despite them), so if there’s more you want to see, do try searching with your country’s broadcaster – I’ve added the BBC links because I can see them all from the UK, but hopefully you can find them in your country too. If there’s anything you especially enjoyed, please do tell me, and I’ll edit it in.
We kicked off with the Road Race, which was dramatic, in so many different ways – Dan and I talked about it in our post-race podcast. Highlights on the Olympic Channel, and on the Olympic YT:
Anna van der Breggen talks about it in this InCycle TV interview:
Full results, and more Road race media:
This weekend was very busy on the road, but off it, it was two huge competitions – the 2016 BMX World Championships, and Round 3 of the 2016 Cross Country MTB World Cup, La Bresse. And thanks to Red Bull TV, we got to see the finals live – and have a whole swathe of videos and other media to watch. Here’s what I loved…
Such a stunning course, and such exhilarating racing – drama right up to the end, and tons of media. We started with this Red Bull Bike video course preview, with legend Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå‘s point of view, and had this PinkBike gallery from the practice, and then went on to the finals. Here’s the full race replay on Red Bull TV, and the highlights from the UCI:
We were hoping to podcast this week because SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT!!! Good and bad and WOW DID YOU SEE THE USA NATIONAL CHAMPS’ FINISH??? but poor Dan has tonsils the size of golf balls, and can’t really speak properly, so he can’t do it. If you want to wish him lots of love and “get well soon” wishes, please do so on twitter – but in the meantime, here are the links from the last week in women’s cycling – we’ve got amazing MTB and road racing, and links that made me laugh and want to punch things, so pretty much something for everyone…..
Last week’s racing
Where better to start than with the first round of the 2015 XCo World Cup? I say this a lot, but Red Bull‘s sponsorship makes it really easy to fall in love with the racing, and there are tons of team and rider media and blogs that keep you there. You can watch the entire replay of the women’s race on Red Bull TV, and then we have highlights and team recaps…
Brace yourself, there’s a LOT here! The Eliminator stuff is over here, but for Cross Country and Downhill, read on….

U23 Cross Country
SO MUCH GOOD STUFF! As always, videos and photos, and I love that…. BUT! What is it with the UCI video clips? I don’t know why, but the UCI World Cup promos are always full of crashes, and not the dramatic “OMG World Cup leader crashes and destroys her season” crashes that are necessary to the storyline, but “haha, watch this race, there’ll be loads of crashes to laugh at” that makes me roll my eyes – I mean, really? And then their highlights videos always have tons of shots of attractive women in the crowds in short-shorts and so on, and I don’t get it at all – why is the governing body of the sport putting out videos where there are more clips of audience totty than of actual women racing? It’s the same women flicking their hair in all three videos, too, and what are we, 1978?
At least there’s Red Bull, who have the superb race footage, great commentary and commission awesome videos from the Parkin Brothers, where the women are racing hard, jumping, battling and then talking about the actual race! I swear, Red Bull does far more for MTB than the UCI! And all the great stuff from teams, too, MTB really knows how to show their fans some love.

Episode 8A – The Supplemental Crazy Idea (originally posted 6 July 2012)
Ok, so the main show was a long and involved one because we were catching up on just how fucking awesome the Giro Donne is (Spoiler Alert: It’s really fucking awesome). So we decided to break off the last part and serve it up separately. In this supplement, Sarah talks us through what is probably the world’s best bike toss.
After that I launch into an idea that’s short on specifics but long on crazy and served up with a decent bit of optimism. I also reveal who my best friend is and tell Sarah about my very famous cycling relative. We end the episode with me not giving the Girl Guides Swearing/Promise sign thing, because of complicated legal reasons. Enjoy! (It’s 16mins or so and 14.92MB)
