Podcast 2017, Episode 15 – the octuplets

If last week was the treble, with three big races, this week it was octuplets!

Dan has been in Tokyo for the last week, and missed out on all the racing, so I catch him up on the action from the USA Crits Speed Week, the Festival Elsy Jacobs in Luxembourg, the Tour de Yorkshire in the UK, and over in France, the first round of the 2017 Downhill MTB World Cup in Lourdes.  Along the way we talk mindgames in racing, the implications of having eight different women’s cycling livestreams over three days, and a lot more.  And I told him about my adventures on BBC Woman’s Hour, and recording with the Wheel Suckers Podcast.

We didn’t get around to talking about everything from last week, so the post below is packed with links, videos, and other things I’ve seen around the internet in the last week.  Of course I recommend it!

This week’s women’s cycling news, videos and links

I was really honoured to be a part of the BBC Radio 4 Women’s Hour that was dedicated to women’s cycling.  Usually the show features multiple topics, but because it’s such a big subject, they had a whole programme dedicated to it, recorded as-live in the London Bike Kitchen.   It includes MTB with Tracey Moseley, road racing with Rochelle Gilmore and Grace Garner, the history of women and cycling with Dr Astrid Swenson, saddle sores with vulval health expert Dr Jane Sterling, and Jenni Gwiadowski, the Director of the LBK, talks everyday cycling, and teaches presenter Jane Garvey to mend a puncture (which you can also watch as a video).  It should be archived here for all time, so please do listen!

Podcast 2017 Episode 14 – The Treble

This week’s episode covers a lot of historic moments in the midst of a very dynamic 2017 season. There’s Tour of the Gila in the US and Omloop van Borsele to cover off, along with the first ever women’s edition of Liege-Bastogne-Liege in all it’s conTEXT and glory. There’s some interesting articles from during the week including the latest edition of Ella’s SHE-cret Pro which seems to have stirred up a bit of controversy. In addition to which we take the time to appropriately thank the UCI for their help with making La Course more La Course-y than ever before.

The final big Downhill MTB race of 2016 was a huge one – the 2016 World Championships.  And because this is MTB, we have a ton of videos, photos and excellent media for you.  I’ll be editing in more as I see it, but wow, there’s a lot already, including the Junior women and the 2016 Four Cross Worlds.

It was a really tough course – very steep, very technical, full of deep dust, treacherous holes and Let’s start with the Full race replay on Red Bull TV.

Winning run:

Want to see that from Atherton’s perspective, on her GoPro?  I know you do!

Videos & more from the 2016 BMX World Champs and the La Bresse MTB World Cup

This weekend was very busy on the road, but off it, it was two huge competitions – the 2016 BMX World Championships, and Round 3 of the 2016 Cross Country MTB World Cup, La Bresse.  And thanks to Red Bull TV, we got to see the finals live – and have a whole swathe of videos and other media to watch.  Here’s what I loved…

La Bresse XCo MTB World Cup

Such a stunning course, and such exhilarating racing – drama right up to the end, and tons of media.  We started with this Red Bull Bike video course preview, with legend Gunn-Rita Dahle Flesjå‘s point of view, and had this PinkBike gallery from the practice, and then went on to the finals.  Here’s the full race replay on Red Bull TV, and the highlights from the UCI:

Podcast 2016 Episode 5 – Omloops!

Podcast logoG’day team! There’s not one, but two Omloops this week, so of course we talk all about them! There’s also heaps of media and interviews to discuss.
