Watch & follow the 2016 Aussie Road Nats LIVE

2016 Australian National Road Cycling Championships, 6-10 January

This year’s Australian Road Racing started with a bang on New Year’s Day with the Bay Crits and their Summer of Cycling continues with the National Road Cycling Championships.  We can watch the road races, and I’ll tell you how to follow the other races live – but forgive me if the information’s complicated, it’s timezones!

We’re in Ballarat as usual, and the schedule, with links to the courses, startlists and so much more, is here,. Ballarat is in  Victoria, and in the AEDT timezone, so 10 hours ahead of European CET, 11 hours ahead of UK GMT, and 16 hours ahead of North American EST, so double check dates if you’re not in Aus.

Videos from the 2015 Australian (& Kiwi!) #RoadNats

Right now it’s the 2015 Australian National Road Championships – the #RoadNats – and we’re 2 races in, with just the road races to come on Saturday 10th January for the women and Sunday 11th January for the men.  But we have video already – here’s what’s happened so far – and I’ll update this post as I see more throughout the weekend.  The good news for Aussies is that there will be tv coverage (schedule here) – the bad news is that the women’s race isn’t shown live, and will only have v short highlights in the middle of the Aussie night, and not online….

Crit Champs

The Criterium Champs kick off the RoadNats, and because the road race course is always, always hilly, this is the only jersey the sprinters can get, so they go hard.  Hell, they’re Aussies, it’s always “go hard or go home”!

Here’s a video preview of the course, by Peta Mullens – and here’s 45 mins of tv highlights, with the u23, women’s and men’s races:

Or if you want a very short clip…

Full results here – and photos from the race on Peloton Café.

Podcast 2014 Special Feature – Episode 56 – Sarah interviews Chloe Hosking

Aussie battler Chloe Hosking is a fan favourite, not just for her stubborn, “never-say-die” sprinting, but for the way she writes about women’s cycling.  Martin, one of my Patreon supporters, asked if I could interview her, and ask her all about joining Wiggle Honda for 2015, and the expansion of super-teams in the women’s peloton – so how could I say no?  Chloe is a lot of fun, loves to talk, and told me all about how she sees next year going, racing with Roxsolt and Wiggle for the Aussie summer season, as well as what she sees her role with the team will be for the Euro season.  We also talked about her blogging, the fall-out from those comments about Pat McQuaid, why you shouldn’t expect her to win in the Aussie National Road Race, but should definitely watch out for her in the Tour of Qatar, and a lot more!  We laugh a fair bit in this one too! (46:47 MIN / 45.09 MB)

Stream the Chloest interview available all week click here.

Get automatic updates via the iTunes store here OR via our RSS feed here.

You can follow Chloe through her twitter, her instagram, and her excellent blog on her website – we talked about a lot of her posts, but especially her post on her influences – and this great profile of Ina-Yoko Teutenberg; dealing with disappointment; her  Women who blog about cycling list – and you should read these blogs about winning at the Lotto Belisol Belgium Tour and the Omloop van Borsele.  Really you should read them all…

Here are videos of that Borsele win

And if you want to know more about the Ladies Tour of Qatar, Chloe’s first UCI race of 2015, the videos from 2014 are in here, and the ones from 2013 are over on Podium Café.

Chloe has been racing the Aussie summer season with Roxsolt, and we were singing the praises of the man behind Roxsolt, Kelvin Rundle – follow his twitter, he really lives up to his name, @crazycyclefan.  And from 1st January 2015, Chloe will be with Wiggle Honda – follow their twitter too.

I’m funded to do these interviews thanks to my incredible Patreon supporters.  Thanks to all of them, and especially Graeme for the question and Martin for suggesting I interview Chloe!

Things I’ve seen recently – December 30th 2013 edition

Mostly I’ve been watching the mid-winter cyclocross – so many great races and fun things, and I’ve been collecting links to videos, photos and other CX miscellany in this post (I especially love Balínt Hamvas’ race photos) as well as how to watch this week’s races – but these are some other things I’ve liked recently.  If there’s anything you’ve seen that I’ve missed, please please add that to the comments, or let me know on twitter.
