Videos from the 2016 Cross Country MTB World Championships

A huge weekend of racing, with so much action – and we’ve got video – highlights from the Junior and U23 women, the full race replay from the elite women, and lots more photos, backstage and more media.

Elite women

SO MUCH DRAMA! in this race – it was just crazy, especially that fight for third.  The full race replay is here on Red Bull TV, and we’ve also got race highlights from the UCI – and I love this video from behind the finish-line, showing what happens after a win!

Rain forest racing – video, photos & more from the 2016 Cairns MTB World Cup

One of the things that made me fall in love with Mountain Bike was getting to see all these extraordinary landscapes, all over the world – and the Cairns round is incredible.  It’s in the Australian rainforest, with all the snakes, spiders, stinging-trees and difficult conditions that comes with that – although this year it was damp, rather than 2014’s torrential (for the women, at least!).  But beautiful!  And the other reason I fell so hard for the sport is that the media is fantastic.  Here’s my collection of videos, photos and more fun stuff from the 2016 Downhill Round 2, and first Cross Country World Cup of 2016.

Downhill World Cup #2

Let’s start with the amazing Red Bull Bike coverage – we can watch the full race replay (top 6 women, and top 20 men) over here.  I love the winner’s interview (no spoilers!) around the 33:15 mark  – and I really love the Red Bull video highlights too.

There’s more highlights here:

But there’s so much more!

Videos & more – 2015 MTB & Trials World Championships, Days 1 to 4

I was going to make a mega-post, but really, there’s so much content coming out of the 2015 Mountain bike and Trials World Championships, in Vallnord, Andorra, that I’m going to have to split my post into (at least!) two.  So this post covers Days 1 to 4, including the Cross Country MTB Eliminator and Relay finals, the Trials quarter- and semi-finals, and the Junior and u23 Cross Country finals.  It’s been fantastic racing, and it’s not going to stop – here’s a reminder of how to watch the elite women’s and men’s Cross Country and Downhill Finals on 5th and 6th September, with the rest of the race schedule and how to follow everything else…

Eliminator

Here’s Claudio Caluori’s helmetcam preview of the course.  They had an unfortunate power cut, so the full race replay video has a LONG period of nothing in it – the races start again after the gap at 1:37:15:

The finals start from 3:30:41 (watch here) or you can just watch the UCI women’s highlights & Vallnord’s Day 1 highlights, with some (men’s) Trials and the XCE

Podcast 2015 Episode 24 – How to Spell Cynical

Podcast logoG’day team! After our [insert choice of adjectives here] attempts at commentating live on Sunday we thought it was high time to catch you up on the rest of the wonderful world of women’s cycling. It’s been a huge week of racing and so we try to cover it all. There were 4 different world cups on over the past week. Vårgårda hosted the road disciplines while there was also MTB and 4Cross. Junior track worlds and more! (1:17:38 MIN / 74.54 MB)

You can also get automated updates via iTunes here or via our RSS feed here.

Things we talked about this week

We covered a LOT of racing – and you can see all the videos from the (deep breath) Crescent Vårgårda Team Time Trial and Road Race World Cups, the Val di Sole cross country and downhill MTB World Cups, 4 Cross and Junior Track World Championships, the Sam Miranda Tour of the King Valley and the USA Pro Challenge in this lovingly curated post Sarah put together, along with results, photos, links and more.

We also talked about Amy Pieters leaving Liv-Plantur, and Stefan Wyman revealing how much it will cost to run Matrix Procycling next year, including implications of the new Women’s World Tour (if you missed that, we talked about it in last week’s podcast, with links in the post).   Want more Matrix?  Here’s a rider Q&A video by VoxWomen.

We didn’t talk about the Women’s Tour of New Zealand stopping again, but it’s over here.

SO much racing video – 2015 Vårgårda, Val di Sole MTB, 4X, Sam Miranda, USA Pro & Junior Track Worlds

There’s been SO MUCH racing this last week, all over the world, in so many disciplines.

On the road we had the Cresent Vårgårda World Cup in Sweden, the USA Pro Challenge and the Sam Miranda Tour of the King Valley in Australia.  In MTB it was the Four Cross World Championships and the final rounds of the MTB World Cups in Val di Sole.  And over in Kazakhstan  it was the Junior Track World Championships – and there’s (so much!) video, photos & news about all of it.  Grab a coffee/fire up the trainer/open a beer etc, and get ready for some really great cycling!

Let’s start with the World Cups, move through the World Championships and then hit the stage racing…

2015 Crescent Vårgårda World Cup

The road race on Sunday was in beautiful sunshine, and a new-ish course.  You can watch the full race replay here on the UCI Youtube, and there are highlights and team videos below:

MTB Wednesday – videos for your perusal

I’m down a rabbit-hole of MTB videos, and loving every moment!

First, it’s the Absa Cape Epic, the most crazy-beautiful-tough, and yes, EPIC! South African MTB stage race.  There are tons of videos on the race Youtube, including this one of Kathrin Stirnemann descending, and these ones focusing on the women’s race from Stage 1, Stage 2, and Stage 3 but my favourite video so far is this one on the Specialized Youtube, following Annika Langvad and Ariane Kleinhans as they talk about picking up a time penalty in Stage 2 and then fighting back in Stage 3.

***

In the Downhill world, the Athertons are training in Malaga, and there’s this gorgeous video on Red Bull Bike, with Rachel Atherton talking about helmetcam (my favourite thing) and tons of helmetcam shots.  Love it!  And if you want to see what they’ll be riding this year, Dirt MTB looks at the new 2015 GT Fury (love that colour, Rach!)

***

If Enduro’s more your thing, here’s a team video from the Commençal Vallnord Enduro Team, including Cécile Ravanel (I first saw this on Pinkbike)

***

Something else I saw on Pinkbike, and it’s so appropriate…  first, a film following the building of a MAXX Fat Bike (guess the colour) and then this lovely film, including ice fishing, outdoor cooking, snow riding and a beer sponsor…. typical Bavarian life!  It all looks like so much fun….  and this, people, is why I love MTB!
