Videos, media and more from the 2017 women’s Amstel Gold Race

It’s the first women’s Amstel Gold Race since 2004 – and the start of the first ever women’s Ardennes Week.  121km, with 17 climbs, including four times up the Cauberg, the last just over a kilometre from the finish.  Everything suggested it was going to be a fantastic race, and the peloton didn’t disappoint.

If you missed the race, or want to re-live it, I’ve collected videos, photos, race reports, results and more.  As always, I’ll edit more things in as I see them, and I’d love it if you could send things my way, via the comments below, or on twitter.

Let’s start with videos.  Highlights and post-win reactions on NOS.nl (please watch, if you can, so they get the stats).  More highlights, and the first podium ceremony, on Sporza. And for Australians (or those with a VPN set to Aus…) here’s the full 43 minute coverage from SBS Cycling Central.

The UCI highlights, final 13km (French commentary, and weirdly a splash image from… the 2008 World Championships) and full 45 minutes coverage with no commentary.

Podcast 2017 Episode 7 – It Will Be a Dutch Alp

This week we celebrate our vindication for having such lofty expectations of Strade Bianche. It was such an exciting and gripping race with one of the most exciting finales we’ve seen in recent years. Once we’re done recapping that (it takes a while)we take a look ahead at the Ronde van Drenthe, and then we get into an interesting and maybe controversial proposal for a new race series. If you see more, please do tell me in the comments below, or on twitter, and I’ll edit it in – and I’m including some of the sponsors, and I’d love it in you could take 5 minutes to send some of them your thanks for supporting the women’s racing, in whatever social media/communications style suits you!

Omloop het Nieuwsblad

This is sadly the only race highlights – if you can, please click through and watch it on Sporza to show them we really want to see the racing.  Or it’s also on YT:

There are some more clips on NOS.nl – highlights, and interviews with the very happy winner Lucinda Brand, and with second-placed Chantal Blaak.

Interviews, from Wielerflits, with Band, Blaak, and third-placed Annemiek van Vleuten

Podcast 2016 Episode 35 – So Many Great Riders

Podcast logo

Our friends at VeloVoices are preparing their end of year voting and asked Sarah to help them come up with a short list of nominees in a whole raft of categories, from Rider of the Year to Best Race Finish of the Year to Breakout Performance of the Year (and a whole bunch more). Of course, to make it challenging the inimitable @kittyfondue told Sarah she needed to keep it to a list of 5 finalists per category.

Sarah dutifully stuck to that requirement (and simply invented new categories when she needed to go over 😉 – no really) and so here we are with the first instalment where we discuss our nominees for Rider of the Year, including a couple of honourable mentions and a couple of riders we considered, but ultimately couldn’t include. We review their seasons, the highs, the lows and the reasons for and against. Will our top pick be the same as yours? (1:01:11 MIN / 56.02 MB)

Part 2, with all the other categories (Best race finish, Unsung heroes, Breakthrough riders and Step-up riders) can be heard and read here.

Rider of the year

This is probably the most open competition in years, with all kinds of riders taking steps up, or consolidating their positions.  But some have stood head and shoulders above the rest.  In chronological order of their achievements….
