The last MTB World Cups of 2016! So sad to see the season end, but Vallnord was a gorgeous place to finish in – and of course, we can watch the full replay and catch tons of media and videos. I’ll be editing more in as I see it, so leave me a comment or tell me on twitter if you find things I’ve missed.
All the results and standings from the 2016 MTB World Cup are on the UCI website – and I’ve also got some thoughts about the UCI highlights videos, and a bit of a rant about why they chose to promote DH as they do.
The full race replay is here on Red Bull TV; and highlights, a few photos, full results and Atherton’s winning run on the Red Bull Bike report; Highlights from Trek Factory Racing:
Photo-essay on Pinkbike; lots of photos on the Vallnord website.
The last MTB World Cup of 2016, and the Downhill and Cross Country riders come together for one final bash, before the DH World Champs next weekend. We’ve in the mountains of Andorra, in Vallnord, and of course, this being MTB, we can watch it live, AND have a ton of media beforehand. I’ll tell you how to watch first, and then check out the pre-race awesome, which I’ll be adding to every day before the races.
So, Vallnord. There’s all the programme information, course maps, startlists etc on the great race website, and the current World Cup standings on the UCI World Cup portal, and what you’re really interested in, the Downhill finals and XCo races will be streamed on Red Bull TV, although I should warn you, sometimes these are streamed on a delay, so keep off social media if you want the results to be a surprise until you’ve seen them! If you miss the races live you’ll be able to watch here after the races too.
To follow the races live on twitter, including the pre-race build up, check out the Vallnord and UCI MTB twitters, and the #UCIMTBWC and #VallnordWorldCup hashtags.
So, what’s gone on so far?
The MTB circus continues to Switzerland, and the Lenzerheide round of the MTB World Cup – both Downhill and Cross Country this week – and I’ve got videos, media and photos from the women’s races to share with you!
Let’s do it chronologically…
Full race replay, and highlights, both on Red Bull Bike. And UCI highlights:
We may have had the Cross Country MTB World Championships last week, but the World Cup is still in full flight. This weekend it’s XCo AND downhill, and as always, we can watch live, thanks to Red Bull TV:
Information on the race website, and follow on twitter via the #UCIMTBWC hashtag
As always, there’s some great pre-race media from the Downhill…
I’ll edit more pre-race media in as I see it – and of course, I’ll put a post of race media after the weekend.
12th June 2016
Last week it was the sunshine of Fort William, this week it’s raining in Austria for Round 4 of the 2016 Downhill MTB World Cup, in Leogang.
As always, the media has always begun, and you can watch Claudio Caluori’s even-more-hardcore-than-normal chain-free run on the very wet course on Red Bull Bike, and more
- Qualifications video on Red Bull Bike – and if you scroll down in there, you’ll find Rach Atherton’s GoPro from her run. Slideshow from Vital MTB and photo-essay from Dirt and Pinkbike. Trek (Athertony) video:
There’ll be tons more media every day – I’ll look for daily videos on Red Bull Bike, and photo galleries and reports on Dirt MTB, Vital MTB and PinkBike. More information, too, on the race website.
And then, of course, the finals are streamed live on Red Bull TV on Sunday 12th June, from 14:30 Euro CEST/ 1:30pm UK BST/ 10:30pm Aussie AEST/ 8:30am USA EDT. Follow the race on the #UCIMTBWC hashtag.
If you can’t wait, check out my collections of media and video from 2013 and 2014. I’ll edit more information in as I see it before the race.
Round 3 of the 2016 Downhill MTB World Cup was in the uncharacteristically sunny Fort William, Scotland – an emotional day, the first World Cup since legend Steve Smith died, but riders racing their hearts out in his memory. If you missed any of it, here’s my collection of media I’ve found, focusing on the women’s racing – and as always, if there’s anything I’ve missed, please do tell me in the comments, or on twitter, and I’ll add it in.
Let’s start with the full race replay, thanks to Red Bull Bike – and their 5 min race highlights video too. More short highlights from the UCI:
Sunday 5th June 2016
Get ready for an amazing Sunday of women’s bike racing! We’ve got iconic courses in downhill MTB and road, and a brand-new Belgian Classic, and it’s going to be wonderful. I’ll tell you how to watch them all live, in chronological order…
I love Belgian races and their multiple names! This is Round 6 of the Lotto Cycling Cup, a series of tough races around the country, and even they call it about 3 different names! It’s a looping course, pretty much flat, two 29k laps, 6 6.9km laps and then one of 4km, and it’ll include riders like Marianne Vos and Jolien D’hoore, and I’m really excited about the Lotto Cup’s steaming! This will be on RTV.be here, from 15:00 CEST/ 2pm BST/ 11am AEST/ 9am EDT – and you can also follow via the Lotto Cycling Cup twitter and the #KVLLC hashtag. Draft startlist on Cycling Fever.
This is going to be the most amazing race. Downhill is always full of adrenaline, in breath-taking surroundings, with fantastic fans – and for us at home, there’s always tons of media.
