2017 Giro Rosa Stage 5 – the ITT. Videos, photos & more media

After the Giro Rosa Stage 1 Team Time Trial, and then the General Classification shake-ups of Stage 2 and Stage 4, Stage 5 was a 12.7km ITT.  It had a typically Giro profile, looking pretty benign, but in real life?  No flat roads have switchbacks like that!  This was going to be brutal….  and brutal was the word used in pretty much every media article/tweet after we saw the stage!

Here was Kasia Niewiadoma’s pre-race course preview:

The climbs were insane, to the point that I think the race organisers were actually trolling the riders and teams.  The videos we saw on twitter were crazy, and the photos ridiculous….  and of course, it shook up the General Classification again!

I’ve got videos, photos, results – and I’ll add more videos as I see them.  Watch the RAI highlights on this link, if you can – but if you’re not in Italy or don’t have a VPN….

Tomorrow’s Stage 6 looks like it’s for sprinters… unless it’s the exact opposite, of course!  It’s 4 laps of a loop, and there could definitely be wind along the coast.  As always in the Giro, expect the unexpected!  It starts at 12:15 CEST (11:15am UK BST, 6:15am USA EDT; 11:15pm Aussie AEST)
