Shirt week! Summer shopping, Part 2: 2016 USA domestic team kits
We’ve just finished a wonderful mini-season of North American UCI bike races – including the Amgen Tour of California, USA National Championships and Winston Salem races, GP Gatineau racs in Quebec, and the fantastic Philadelphia Classic (click through those links for videos) – and one of the great things about the series is the domestic teams and riders getting international exposure. If you’ve loved watching the women’s teams race, and want to support them – or just like their style – here’s how you can buy their cycling kit.
These are the USA team kits I can find – with the American WorldTour teams in Part 1 of my summer shopping special. If there are any I’ve missed, please do link me up in the comments, or on twitter, and I’ll edit them in.
The team kit’s in that Bianchi Celeste, and you can buy the jersey and bibshorts in unisex cuts (they advise women buy a size down, as they’re sized for men) along with arm-warmers, baseball cap and cycling cap. These are all on the cycling store page of Colavita’s online shop, where you can buy all kinds of Italian food, coffee and gift ideas. They’ve been a sponsor of USA women’s racing for years, so why not buy something from them, and tell them it’s because of the links to the team! And for an extra link to the squad, the team website includes pages of recipes from the team, riders and their friends.
It’s the first year for this brand-new team, set up (& owned!) by rider Lindsay Bayer and Jono Coulter, who worked in USA women’s cycling for years (you might remember him from the Vanderkitten team).
The team has a store page, where the jersey and bibs were available in supporters and race specs, women’s and men’s cut, but are currently sold out – but you can still buy a T-shirt and socks, and I’m sure the kit will have another order window at some stage too – email them via the store page, and they’ll tell you when they’ll be taking the next orders.
It’s a new sponsor for 2016, but the women’s and men’s team have been around for ages, most recently under the name Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies. This year’s kit is very orange, and if you like it, there are all kinds of things you can buy from the Borah team shop, from the cycling kit in women’s and men’s cuts and performance and club fabrics, to various riding accessories, and the off-bike wear, the team hoody and cycling cap.
While their team kit is gorgeous, it’s not for sale yet, though if you keep an eye on their website, it might turn up later in the year. What you can buy, however, is a T-shirt to help support one of their riders. Lauren De Crescenzo was involved in a crash during a race back in April, that left her with severe neck and brain injuries. Her family set up a GoFundMe to help pay for her medical bills (please do support it if you can) and the team are promoting the #WolfPackLauren T-shirt, and the proceeds will go towards the medical fund. Follow her recovery on the website her family are updating.
If you’re a fan of USA Cycling, and want to support the development of future USA riders, you can buy cycling kit on Voler in women’s and men’s cuts, with proceeds going to the USA Cycling Development Foundation, which supports young cyclists across disciplines.
And if you want to support USA Cycling, they have a shop too, which sells casual off-bike clothes – t-shirts, hoodies, bags and more.
Up next, it’ll be a post full of British domestic team kits – and if there are other team kits from other countries you think I should feature, let me know in the comments or on twitter. It’s got to be pro, though! In the meantime, I’ve got more 2016 kits to look at and buy over here, in the voting post from February for non-WorldTour teams – and of course, this year’s WorldTour kits to buy as well.
As always, I get nothing from any of these companies or teams – I just like sharing! I’m funded by my wonderful Patreon supporters, though – you can join them via the link!
