Half-way through the Giro Rosa, and the women’s peloton are hugely relieved to be out of the oven-like flatlands and into the cooler hills… ready for the first uphill finish of the race. After a bad start with crashes in the neutral zone, the stage was full of attacks and breaks and catches, right up to the finish. With a break having “stolen” a flat finish perfect for bunch sprinters on Stage 3, could a group “steal” this one for the escape artists? And would the first uphill finish change the General Classification? Watch the highlights and find out…

I won the Aprica stage in Giro today. Thanks to my amazing teammates for all the hard work, but also thanks to the #RaboLiv staff. Je remporte l'étape en haut de la montée d'Aprica aujourd'hui sur le Giro. Merci à mes coéquipières pour le formidable travail, mais aussi à tout le staff de mon équipe. 😀🏆
General Classification after Stage 5 – Megan Guarnier extends her lead with bonifications. Special shout-out to Elena Cecchini, who was caught in the big crash, but got back up, and finished in the front group to keep her 10th spot in the GC, looking like this…
I say this every day, but oh my goodness, Balint Hamvas’ Stage 5 photos are gorgeous! The ones in the tunnels, and the rider in the rain – I felt them rather than thought about them, just wow. A couple of great photos (and a sad story) from Velofocus too, love the podium shot! More photos on the Giro Rosa facebook.
