We’re at the halfway point of the 2015 Giro Rosa, with the last flat stage before the peloton hits the mountains and the climbers come out to play. It’s still crazy-hot out there, and with one last chance for sprint glory – or for flat-loving escape artists to take their chances – it was fast and furious all the way.
Video highlights, and more below – including the full results, links to blogs, photos, tweets and things I enjoyed from today’s stage. As always I’ll keep updating this as I see more.
Here’s the sprint and the podium:
and here’s the hour-long highlights (if you don’t have a lot of time, fast forward to the last 10 minutes)
Watch the peloton take that tough right-angle corner in the final kilometre
and another video of the breakaway taking a U-turn, chased by the peloton, and then followed by the race convoy
Highlights from the race (race atmosphere, roadside video and interviews before & after)

Italian all the way! And continuing this year’s Giro theme of a different team taking the win every day, with five different teams & riders winning on each of the five days. Will that continue?
I caught up with Lucinda Brand, Elisa Longo Borghini and Valentina Scandolara for Q&As about how their races have been, what Stage 4 was like, and what they think is coming next, including their advice for any riders heading into the Giro mountains for the first time. Read them here.
The usual beautiful photos from Balint Hamvas at Cyclephotos.co.uk and Sean at Velofocus – pleased Balint hasn’t melted yet, & his story of the stage sounds crazy! And it’s backed up in Annemiek van Vleuten’s Stage 4 report (Dutch, or via google translate), and by Emilia Fahlin
Race reports on Cycling Tips Ella, with rider quotes, and from Rabo-Liv, Boels Dolmans, ORICA-AIS, Bigla and from Lucinda Brand on her website (Dutch or via google translate), Tiffany Cromwell’s diary on Ella Cycling Tips, and interview with Rachel Neylan on Bike Exchange. More photos from the Giro Rosa facebook.
Other things I liked
I didn’t exactly like this, but send your healing vibes to Anna Sanchis Chafer
So what happens tomorrow? The race goes uphill! Here’s Velofocus’ preview to get you in the mood, we were in the same area last year, and you can see those videos here – and here’s the race’s video preview:
