This week’s links (poor Dan’s sick)

We were hoping to podcast this week because SO MUCH TO TALK ABOUT!!!  Good and bad and WOW DID YOU SEE THE USA NATIONAL CHAMPS’ FINISH??? but poor Dan has tonsils the size of golf balls, and can’t really speak properly, so he can’t do it.  If you want to wish him lots of love and “get well soon” wishes, please do so on twitter – but in the meantime, here are the links from the last week in women’s cycling – we’ve got amazing MTB and road racing, and links that made me laugh and want to punch things, so pretty much something for everyone…..

Last week’s racing

Cross Country MTB World Cup, Nové Město na Moravě

Where better to start than with the first round of the 2015 XCo World Cup?  I say this a lot, but Red Bull‘s sponsorship makes it really easy to fall in love with the racing, and there are tons of team and rider media and blogs that keep you there.  You can watch the entire replay of the women’s race on Red Bull TV, and then we have highlights and team recaps…

Gunn-Rita Dahl Flesjå came second – here’s her Multivan Merida team video

One of the inevitable favourites of this year’s XCo World Cup is going to be Road World Champion and MTB superstars Pauline Ferrand Prévot, who was third last weekend.  Here’s a profile of her

and here’s a profile of a star of the future, Swedish Eliminator specialist and winner of the Nové Město u23 World Cup, Jenny Rissveds.

World Champion, Catharine Pendrel talking to Canadian Cycling, and her race blog:

and finally, here’s the video from Specialized, including Anneke Beerten and Lea Davison

The full results are here, and there are photos from Red Bull Bike, and a blog and photos from Aussie Bec Henderson.  And there are photos of riders’ bikes here – click the arrow to get to bikes including winner Jolanda Neff‘s.

USAPRO National Road Championships

First we had the ITT Champs, and there are photos on VeloNews and Cyclingnews, and this interview with winner Kristin Armstrong, including how pissed off she is with USA Cycling (which is pretty controversial for a lot of people).  Full results.

and then the OMG WOW AMAZING SO EXCITING road race!  You can watch the full race video from 26:30ish, or click here if you want to just watch the endgame – wonderful racing!

Click through for a mini video interview with Megan Guarnier after the race.  Photos from Optum p/b Kelly Benefit, on Cyclingnews and VeloNewsFull results.

And some tweets we liked:

The Milk Race

Here’s the full video from the Nottingham Crit, and photos from Neutral Service and Roadbook Britannia.

Tour Series – Redditch and Motherwell

More Crit action! Click through those title links for results, and highlights from Redditch, and interview with winner Laura Trott – and click through the ITV4 coverage from Redditch and Motherwell, available for 4 weeks after each race.  Photos, too, from RoadBook Britannia and from Neutral Service.

and if you want to watch more Crits from the UK and USA this summer, here’s my guide

This week’s miscellany

I’ve written about this already, but seriously, if you haven’t read this blog by Lucy Martin about her year not getting paid and not getting helped, please click through.  It’s pretty damn depressing, but important we read it and talk about it.

A different kind of blog about ‘backstage’ life in the peloton – Loren Rowney‘s fantastic & funny blog about the rules of sharing rooms on the road, on Ella Cycling Tips.

Super-talented young Aussie track & ITT star Macey Stewart recently had a horrible training crash, and talks about how she’s recovering, on Ride.

One of the UCI officials, Andrea Marcellini, was at the Tour of California, and talked to Cyclingnews about the UCI’s plans for women’s cycling (of course we have feelings about this…)

Emma Johansson shared photos and a blog about a very special (possibly treasonous for Swedes) rest day.  It’s a really lovely window into her life off the bike.

If you want to improve your fitness on the bike, try Specialized’s 60 Day Challenge which starts on 1st June – there are prizes to be won too! (I have to say, it’s refreshingly great to see a video like this with someone who’s not white, because one of the things that bothers me about the cycling world is how it’s so often presented as all-white-all-the-time, and for the leisure/commute/amateur market I don’t understand why there’s so much white-washing)

Speaking of prizes, if you want to win young Downhill MTB star Tahnée Seagrave‘s race bike AND help breast cancer awareness charity Coppafeel, checkout her #Copparide page.

If you need some help to race the Bristol Grand Prix next month, they’re offering financial support – pass it on!
