Our thoughts are with the friends and family of Annefleur Kalvenhaar

Tragic news from the Méribel MTB World Cup.  Dutch rider Annefleur Kalvenhaar crashed in the Elimination yesterday, and despite being airlifted to hospital, was reported dead today.

Kalvenhaar, who turned 20 in June this year, was best known in the cycling world for winning the first ever European u23 Cyclocross Championships last year.  There’s more information on NOS, and a statement on the UCI website.

Our thoughts are with all her friends, family and loved ones.

UPDATE:  The riders in the Cross Country races at Méribel rode with a flower in tribute to Annefleur.  There’s another tribute to her, and UCI rep Simon Burney talking about how her team, Focus, wanted the races to go ahead in her honour, at the start of the Red Bull XCo coverage.
