There are only 2 UCI-level women’s races in the USA, and the first one is on Friday, the Winston-Salem Cycling Classic. This is only the second year the North Carolina race has been held, so it’s great that it’s taking the step up – and especially so because we can watch it live! The race is part of a two-day festival of cycling – with the women’s UCI race and a men’s National Racing Calendar race on Friday, and then on Saturday, the 4th round of the USA Crits series for women and men. And best of all? We can watch them both live, and if we miss them live, the stream becomes an archive straight away
Friday 18th April, Women’s Road Race
The course is 8 laps of an 11km circuit with a climb that gets up to 10% – 91km in total, and here’s the Velofocus preview for more information. The race will start at 9:30am USA EDT (6:30am USA PST; 2:30pm UK BST; 15:30 Euro CEST; 11:30pm Aus AEST) (press play to see a count-down for easy conversion to your timezone)
There’s a startlist on Cycling Fever – and it’s going to be very interesting, with the big USA teams like United Healthcare, Optum p/b Kelly Benefit Strategies, Tibco and TWENTY16 fighting it out – but can the USA’s Shelley Olds, of Italian team Alé-Cipollini, steal their glory?
Saturday 19th April, women’s pro crit
The crit starts at 4:45pm USA EST (1:45pm USA PDT; 9:45pm UK BST; 22:45 Europe CEST; 6:30am Sunday Aus AEST) and it’s an hour-long race on a simple course with 6 corners. The USA Crits series is a lot of fun, and if you want to see what’s happened in the previous races, watch them on Youtube, follow their twitter and check out their website.
After each of the women’s races, the streams will follow the men’s races, and if you want information on those, or all the other superb stuff that’s happening over the weekend, including amateur races, the Gran Fondo, the live music and other events, head over to the race website and check out their facebook.
