Podcast 2014 Episode 11 – Ronde van Amazing
We wrap up the Ronde van Vlaanderen, talk about the Redlands Classic in the US (and how it’s not that fucking hard to provide some race footage!). We review a lot of blogs and videos we’ve seen through the week including ride blogs from Chloe Hosking, Gracie Elvin and Emma Johansson, and a great video from Matrix Vulpine. There’s also a great video from Caroline Buchanan and some more blogs from Anika Todd, Accidento Bizarro and a completely left-field shout-out to our mate Laura Moo. We quickly glance ahead to Energiewacht Tour and wonder where in the world the Tour of Thailand is (we’re pretty sure it’s in Thailand actually, but haven’t been able to confirm this online). Enjoy! This week’s women’s cycling links
We really loved Accidento Bizarro’s blog on how harassment can be just like riding a bike – it’s a great analogy, and she always write really well, you should definitely read it.
This week’s racing
What does Marianne Vos do when she isn’t racing? Support the team, of course!
Sarah has a race report on Podium Café, and a post with just the videos and photos here on the site – but her favourite way to follow the race is through these three race reports, from Gracie Elvin, Chloe Hosking and Emma Johansson – very honest, very interesting, and very well-written, all of them.
You can find video from each stage on the VeloNews youtube – here’s the video from the final stage – it kicks into the women’s race live at around the 45-minute mark
GP de Dottignies
More blogs and interviews
Anika Todd‘s blog on racing Dutch crits – she’s really interesting, especially on how getting pushed around when racing with the guys gave her her racing mojo back
Clare Dallat‘s blog about coming back from breaking her hip
Lauren Hall‘s Q&A on winning Gent-Wevelgem and more
UK cycling fun
If you’re in the UK for the Tour de France depart, you should definitely go and see this – Beryl, a play by Maxine Peake based on her radio play last year on the life of cycling star Beryl Burton, at the multi-award-winning West Yorkshire Playhouse in Leeds
Matrix-Vulpine‘s training camp video
This looks like a lot of fun – the She Rides programme, to help build skills and confidence on the bike for women over 30. If you know anyone who would be interested, send it their way!
If you’re new to BMX, here’s a great video with USA National Champion Alise Post, “How to talk BMX”
and we’re BIG fans of Aussie BMX superstar Caroline Buchanan. Here’s part 1 of a video series following her
What do soigneurs get up to during a race like the Ronde van Vlaanderen?
